The Red Deer River Watershed Alliance released its Background Report on Riparian Areas, Wetlands and Land Use in 2013-02.

To set targets and synthesize information while still accounting for major landscape differences throughout the Red Deer River watershed, five Landscape Units were defined based on dominant land use and natural patterns: Upper Headwaters, Lower Headwaters, Central Urbanizing, Central Agricultural, and Dry Grasslands. Recommended outcomes, indicators, and targets for each of the three topics are summarized below. The report also outlines, for each topic, priorities for improved monitoring and data acquisition, research needs, and key Beneficial Management practices (BMPs) recommended for implementation.
